BEARSTED RETRIEVE THE KENT SUPER SENIORS TROPHY
In its 13th year of operation, Kent’s Super Seniors League for Over-70s this year comprised 30 clubs playing in five regional groups, and the winners of each group played a Grand Final at Chestfield on Tuesday 13 October. The five Bearsted pairs, achieved their fourth win in the last six years and carried off the Rochester & Cobham Cup with an aggregate better ball stableford total of 173 points, 5 points ahead of 2nd-placed Knole Park’s 168. Broome Park scored 166, Sene Valley 152 and Birchwood Park 151. Although the course was in excellent condition, a bitter wind and lightning greens made scoring difficult, but two pairs, Bill House & Geoff Edden of Knole Park and Grahame Waters & Ken Palmer of Bearsted each achieved 40 points. Chestfield hospitality and organisation was exemplary and the relaxed style in which over-70s matches are played continues to attract clubs to the League. Any clubs interested in participating are invited to seek details on the KGVL website.

Rochester & Cobham Park win the 'Sam King' Trophy
One group of Kent clubs has operated a Super Seniors league for over-70s golfers for 11 years since 2003 and on Monday 14 October the seven participating clubs enjoyed an end-of-season Jamboree at the Wildernesse Club. Five pairs from each club all teed off to a shot-gun start with each pair's better-ball stableford score aggregated to determine the result. John Perry and Barry Sweetman, the President and Secretary of the Kent Golf Veterans League also played as guests. The day was blessed by the absence of rain and the course was in excellent condition considering the downpours of previous days. At the luncheon afterwards John Perry presented the Sam King Trophy to the Rochester & Cobham Park captain Geoffrey Booker whose team are the 2013 Group champions over the inter-club matches through the summer, and the Wildernesse Club Captain Christopher Thomas presented prizes for the day. The Jamboree results saw the host club Wildernesse in first place with a fine aggregate score of 202 points, ahead of Knole Park's 198 points. Other scores were Lamberhurst 191, Rochester & Cobham Park 190, West Malling and Wrotham Heath both on 188 and Woodlands Manor 179. Best pair scores were achieved by Wildernesse's Colin Milne (current Chairman of the Club) & David Moscow with 43 pts and West Malling's Brian Styance & Ken Thompson with 42pts. |

Wickinson is KGVL top dog
Kent Golf Veterans League [KGVL] held their Singles Championship at Etchinghill Golf Club last month with Faversham's Lee Wickison taking first place. The event organised by KGVL and sponsored by GO KART electric golf, was supported by 53 club players from Kent. Whilst bad weather was forcast for the day, the opposite happened and warm weather prevailed which, coupled with the excellent condition of the Pentland owned course, competively placed pin positions and the superb hospitality from the home club, made for an enjoyable day by all players. The first prize of a GO KART trolley and engraved cut glass bowl and the Singles Championship Cup was won with the nine-handicapper scoring 38 points, a very creditable score for the day. Runner-up three points adrift was Doug Hayman [Tenterden], who received a GO KART golf bag and engraved cut glass bowl, with Mick Huntley [Etchinghill] third on countback. The next KGVL event is the Team Championship at Canterbury Golf club which takes place on Thursday 17th. October. |
